چکیده

Editor’s Note: At the 1983 National Conference, there was a special session on Technology Transfer. Six speakers from different industrial organizations presented their personal views on the process of turning the results of AI restarch and development into commercial practice. Unfortunately there was not time to produce and distribute a written record of the Symposium for the attendees. To correct that problem, we will publish edited versions of the six oral presentations, at the rate of one or two per issue. The following two articles, by Larry Harris of Artificial Intelligence Corporation and S. Jerrold Kaplan of Teknowledge, inaugurate the series Other speakers at the Symposium were Reid Smith (Schlumberger), Stephen Polit (DEC), Ed T yl a or (TRW) and Earl Sacerdoti (formerly Machine Intelligence Corporation, now with Teknowledge). A Definition of Artificial Intelligence

In this paper we offer a formal definition of Artificial Intelligence and this directly gives us an algorithm for construction of this object. Really, this algorithm is useless due to the combinatory explosion. The main innovation in our definition is that it does not include the knowledge as a part of the intelligence. So according to our definition a newly born baby also is an Intellect. Here...

Law and policy in an era of cyborg-assisted-life: The implications of interfacing in-the-body technologies to the outer world

Medical technology verges on incorporating directly into our anatomy processors with the computational power of the famous Watson IBM computer and Internet-like communications. As the size of computers spiral downward, their wholesale use (as well as RFIDtype technology) will extend lifetimes, enhance our intellect, and assist in controlling technology outside the body via digital I/O and thoug...

Openness to experience, intellect, and cognitive ability.

An instrument designed to separate 2 midlevel traits within each of the Big Five (the Big Five Aspect Scales [BFAS]) was used to clarify the relation of personality to cognitive ability. The BFAS measures Openness to Experience and Intellect as separate (although related) traits, and refers to the broader Big Five trait as Openness/Intellect. In 2 samples (N = 125 and 189), Intellect was indepe...
